We've been back in Singapore for a little more than a week. Yesterday, while riding in the car, I was browsing through the pictures on SK's camera. Well, he hadn't downloaded the shots taken in our last few weeks in Vancouver and when I re-looked at the ones we took snow mobiling in the back country of Whistler, I couldn't help but start to tear.
One of the things we held precious there was the time we could spend as a family just hanging out and doing stuff. Our resolution when we were preparing to come back was to try our best to maintain that family time. Have we managed it so far? It's true that the situation is much better than before our time in Vancouver. My dear husband has really been trying very hard to be home as early as possible and we have been careful to not simple jump back into every activity we were involved in before. But unlike in Vancouver, each minute is a conscious choice. Where before, SK would have 30-40 emails to clear on his blackberry at night, that now numbers in the thousands and he has to make a difficult choice of how much to clear at night, and how much to leave till he gets in the office tomorrow. We have already compromised our "weekends are for rest" ideal to make room for Jared to get Chinese tuition from a trusted friend. And there are more choices to make soon.
I hope we choose wisely.
